The Craft Beer Community Loves Keep A Breast We found our people in this community. Since 2010, we have been so stoked to be the beneficiary of the Brewbies Craft Beer Festival founded by Melanie Pierce. To date, she has raised over $560K for KAB. When I first thought of craft beer, I did not get it. I just thought it was dudes with beards, wearing Dickies, making beer in their garages. What I learned was that it was so much more. I came to appreciate the “craft” of it all. I understood that this community was full of amazing creatives that like to make things that are special and share them with their friends. I also learned that this community is extremely generous, kind and supportive of each other and I’m ALL about that.

Friendship I grew up in San Diego and it feels good to be doing an exhibition in my hometown. I’ve been friends with Dave Lively (the owner of Fall Brewing Co.) since our days at Mira Mesa High. He was older and cooler than me. He built a skate ramp in my best friend Hillary’s backyard with her older brother and we would just hang out and watch the older guys skate. I always looked up to Dave and I still do. Fast forward to a few years ago when I got a direct message on Instagram from Dave connecting me with one of his staff who was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the same time I got a DM from one of our artists Mike Giant connecting me with Angela. When this happens to a friend we just don’t know what to do or what to say, but we know we want to do something. We want to believe that breast cancer can’t happen to young women like Angela, but it absolutely can, and that’s why we do the work that we do with KAB. I was happy he connected me to Angela “bepydoll”, who, through our organization, we have been able to support through our art and grant programs. These casts here at Fall Brewing Co. are the result of San Diego community members, friends, artists and creatives, who took time out of their lives to show Angela how much they love her and give back to a cause that touches us all. Angela curated this show. She brought all the people together whom I casted for this exhibition and Angela, KAB and Fall Brewing Co. invited the artists.
