Wow, the KAB Give Back Grant is back and we are doing it big!

Last year, (which honestly feels like five years ago, am I right?) in 2020, KAB awarded the Give Back Grant to sixteen BIPOC women who are breast cancer survivors or had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Of the sixteen awards, KAB funded ten. Each award was a grant for $500. The other six grants were graciously donated by Fiona Prine, OHBOY records, One Drop Ink, Braud Creative, Collective 615, and Imogene and Willie. We were so grateful for the support and so totally inspired by the women who submitted grant applications, that we wholeheartedly agreed to launch it again in 2021.

JULY 1ST, 2021 WE ARE DOING IT BIG!

Through the generosity of foundation support and individual donors just like you, we are granting at least $100,000 in awards.
With each award being $500, that’s 200 awardees!

When our Founder, Shaney jo, was in Nashville last year, she knew that she wanted to give back (Get it??) to a community that had embraced KAB.

“I created the Give Back Grant program to be able to put funds directly in the hands of BIPOC women who need it, without any red tape or lengthy application processes. Financial stress during cancer makes everything that much harder, especially during a pandemic. I hope these grants provide just a little ease and love during an already difficult time.” —Shaney jo

WHY BIPOC WOMEN?

Well, you might not know this, but different communities are disproportionately impacted by breast cancer and other diseases in different ways.

While breast cancer is more common in white women, the mortality rate for black women with breast cancer is much higher. This higher mortality rate is not a coincidence but instead rooted in a long history of injustice and inequality. Black women are not inherently less likely to survive breast cancer, but they are more likely to have a lack of access to healthcare, screenings, and education. These problems keep American black women in a higher mortality rate group than their white counterparts.

With the KAB Give Back Grant, not only are we (and by we I mean KAB and our supporters) supporting BIPOC women directly, but we also aim to educate people about these racial disparities. We hope to bridge gaps that exist in our healthcare system with free access to breast health education and by offering healthcare through the KAB app.

Sounds pretty awesome! SO, HOW DO YOU APPLY?

Grant applications will go live on July 1st.

To qualify, you should be a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Woman of Color) woman living in the US, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or is a breast cancer survivor.

I know, you’re probably wondering how can the grant money be spent?

There are very few limitations. This award is meant to assist BIPOC women. Whether it be spent on a bill, healthcare costs, essential self-care, or vacation, we just hope it helps.

Visit our website on July 1st to apply and spread the word to your friends and family members!
