20 Years of KAB in Photos

At KAB, we aren’t much for business as usual, we challenge the status quo and start tough conversations. We love boobies, we know that prevention is the cure, and every day we can help someone lower their risk of developing breast cancer is a rad day.

These photos are some of my personal favorite memories and moments of the last 20 years.

Women’s March LA 2017

I feel like this is an important image to start us off.

Reproductive health and healthcare as a whole are under deep attach right now. More than ever, we have to be our own health advocates, as well an advocate for others and use our votes to support rights and access for all.

Sigi Mukherjea-Nimmann

Please meet Sigi Mukherjea-Nimmann - Keep A Breast’s number one fan and supporter! Sigi is a breast cancer survivor, seen here with her cast from a Keep A Breast Cast Exhibition at Triple 5 Soul in New York City. Her daughter Mona Mukherjea, and I started Keep A Breast 20 years ago.

Mike Maxwell: incredible human, artist and friend.

Mike has painted many casts for KAB over the years. This one stands out as it features a portrait of Margarte Kilgallen, our inspiration for starting Keep A Breast 20 years ago after she was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 33 years old.

Mona Mukherjea & Carol Martori

These two women have inspired and supported me more than anyone the last 20 years of KAB. Carol’s mother is also a breast cancer survivor and together they’ve hosted KAB exhibitions at the Phoenix Museum of Art. Carol is filmmaker who has traveled the world with us documenting our work.

Allison Abbot & Amanda Nixon

Allison Abbott and Miss Nixon are breast cancer survivors. We met many years ago after they had been diagnosed and wanted to be cast. They have since become two of my dearest friends and advocates.

Just last week, I was a virtual guest speaker for one of Allison’s health classes at San Diego State University.

Amanda Nixon Carpowich has lead our survivor support programs for many years and has taught me what it means to be a friend of a cancer survivor.

That time my dad met Steve Caballero

Growing up in southern California, skateboarding was a big part of our lives. My friend and skate photographer Desiree Astorga curated a KAB exhibition in San Fransisco called Kings & Queens.

My dad drove with me to SF to help set-up the show. This pic is from opening night, and you can see how stoked my dad was to meet the legend that is Steve!

BMTH at WT

This pic of Bring Me The Horizon brings back so many memories. This is from back when it was impossible find someone not wearing something i love boobies! at Warped Tour. I am forever grateful for the opportunity we had to educate teens for 20 years of Warped Tour and KAB with our Traveling Education Booth.

The Warped Crew

Grateful for all these humans and so many more that worked for Keep A Breast and Non Toxic Revolution on the Vans Warped Tour every summer. When you tour with people you bond with them for life.

Non Toxic Revolution at WT

Launching Non Toxic Revolution was one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. We worked with Shepard Fairey and Studio Number One to create all the branding for this special program.

Shepard has been a part of Keep A Breast since day one; it’s the best feeling to be able to work with friends and create art that has meaning behind it to inspire change and advocacy.

9 20 KASS JENN PLASTIC SUCKS 2.jpg

Two mermaids from the sea that I have watched grow into amazing women who are advocates both for environmental and humanitarian issues.

This pic was taken at the recycling yards in Los Angeles when we launched our #plasticsucks campaign.

Breast Cast Models

This pic is literally from a dream. I had an idea to do a fashion show with models wearing gowns and their breast casts.

Miss Moo

Miss Moo is a breast cancer survivor from Phoenix Arizona. I went to her house to cast her and she had cow inspired stuff everywhere - she even had green carpet so the cows could graze all day.

Her cast is one of the most stunning I have ever seen. If you look into the nipple, you can see your reflection.

The Pink Sharks

If you’ve been to Brewbies then you’ve fallen in love with the pink sharks as much as I have.

Kat Magsaysay and Leslie Koch will sell circles around you with raffle tickets!

Keep A Breast ambassadors and friends. It’s so meaningful to have the support of people who share your vision. All three of these amazing athletes are incredible entrepreneurs and activists for the planet.

The most beautiful cast I’ve ever made

of a young breast cancer survivor and mother.

Mona with Her Cast

When Mona was diagnosed with breast cancer the walls of my heart fell to the ground.

This pic was taken at the KAB loft in Downtown Los Angeles, the day before she was to undergo a double mastectomy.

The cast ended up being painted by Caia Koopman who is a dear friend of ours and part of the KAB fam.

#Checkyourselfie Mural by Skye Walker

This is just the coolest! This is a #checkyourselfie mural in East Nashville designed and painted by Skye Walker on his Sea to Sea Mural Tour.

17 Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center..jpg

KAB loves Frontline Workers

We had a bunch of Nuun Hydration tablets, so I distributed them around to nurses and other frontline workers in our areas. This is Kaiser Permanente in San Diego.

Thank you so much to all of the frontline workers in this country and around the world.

While this isn’t the 20th anniversary I imagined, I am deeply grateful that we’re able to celebrate 20 years of love and advocacy in any way we can. Thank you so much to my friends who are part of this.

Check out the Keep A Breast Nashville Collection. Casts are up for bid right now on Charity Buzz!

Thank you to Yasha Young, longtime friend of KAB and one of the curators of this exhibition. Yasha also curated the KAB Tokyo Love Show and launched Non Toxic Revolution in Berlin.

KAB HAIR!

You know we had to end it with a Warped Tour memory!

If someone shaving their head and dying it pink in the shape of your logo isn’t a success - I don’t know what is!

This journey has been paved with punk rock shows, one-of-a-kind Breast Casts, and passionate do-gooders. And KAB wants to thank you: the survivor, the family member, the friend, the partner, the caregiver, the fierce rebel, and the seeker of cancer prevention.

Here’s to 20 years of loving boobies.
