WHY ARE YOU CALLED “KEEP A BREAST”?

Keep A Breast’s programs focus on prevention and early detection - our name is meant to empower and inspire people to “keep abreast” of their health and is not a blanket recommendation to those diagnosed with breast cancer.

WHY DO YOU SAY “I LOVE BOOBIES!

After learning of the breast cancer diagnosis of her 27-year-old friend, Shaney jo Darden founded Keep A Breast in order to educate young people about breast health and breast cancer prevention. Thus, “i love boobies!” is meant to grab the attention of young people and end the stigma of being able to openly talk about breast health and bodies in general.

CAN I BUY INDIVIDUAL I LOVE BOOBIES! BRACELETS? WHERE CAN I BUY XYZ I LOVE BOOBIES! MERCH?

We’re so stoked that you still love i love boobies! after all these years! However, the only things we have available are what’s in our online shop. We don’t currently produce merchandise, and won’t be restocking items so we can’t fill individual requests outside of what is listed in the shop.

Don’t see what you’re looking for? Be sure to check out our collaborations page for different types of KAB & i love boobies! products, as well as an array of products that don’t have our branding but do benefit us!

DOES KEEP A BREAST DONATE TO RESEARCH?

As a small, education-based organization, donations allow us to serve our mission by funding our educational and support programs. If you’re looking to donate to breast cancer (and other cancers) prevention research, we suggest Breast Cancer Prevention Partners and Environmental Working Group.

We have donated to research in the past. In 2010 and 2011, The Keep A Breast Foundation awarded grants to leaders and organizations that were taking a stand to make the world a better, healthier place for future generations through alternative care, environmental effects or cutting-edge research. Over $200,000 dollars was donated to research and environmental programs including The University of California San Diego, California State University, Fresno, Essentially Pink, Bloom Natural Health, The Rack Pack, Teens Turning Green, Environmental Working Group and a unique Green Janitorial Program for schools.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY RAISED GO?

Your donation supports Keep A Breasts’s education and support programs. These unique programs use art, creative expression and grassroots action to inform young people about methods of prevention, early detection, coping and support. Through these programs, KAB strives to inspire young people to adopt lifestyle choices that have long-term health benefits. Learn more about our work: Check Yourself, Non Toxic Revolution, Treasured Chest, Fit 4 Prevention, and The KAB Valley.

HOW MUCH OF YOUR PRODUCT SALES GO TOWARD YOUR CAUSE?

By buying an authentic and official Keep A Breast and Non Toxic Revolution item you are directly funding The Keep A Breast Foundation’s programs. With the sale of these items, KAB has started a movement that has raised thousands of dollars to increase our activities to educate people and create awareness around the world.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Keep A Breast wants to enable activism by young people, and we acknowledge that young people want to play a part of a bigger and better good. We have developed multiple ways to contribute time, influence, ideas and energy to our Mission. These range from adding us to your social network to throwing your own benefit show. Visit our Get Involved page to learn more.

MY SCHOOL SAYS I CAN’T SUPPORT YOUR ORGANIZATION BY WEARING YOUR BRACELETS – WHAT DO I DO?

We have seen our i love boobies! bracelets questioned or banned at several schools. It has been great to see students, parents, the ACLU and even Federal Court Judges rally behind Keep A Breast and our Mission. While we can’t give you legal advice or guarantee that you won’t get in trouble for wearing our bracelet, we can suggest that you respond to any upset respectfully and by explaining to your school administration what the bracelet(s) represent, and why you support the Keep A Breast Foundation.

I SAW “I LOVE BOOBIES!” MERCHANDISE THAT WASN’T FROM YOU – DOES THE MONEY GO TO KAB?

No. Many have contacted us in the past about products that look like Keep A Breast merchandise, but are sold on street corners and random places, or look a little “off”. Unfortunately, proceeds from counterfeit merchandise do not go to Keep A Breast. The best place to purchase official Keep A Breast merch is directly from us in our online shop. The Keep A Breast Foundation is the registered owner of the trademark “i love boobies!”. KAB products are sold to raise money for KAB’s programs and events, and to support our Mission.

WHY DOES KEEP A BREAST MAKE “I LOVE BOOBIES!” MERCHANDISE INSTEAD OF A PINK RIBBON?

The purpose of Keep A Breast’s “i love boobies!” campaign is to speak to young people in their own voice. We want to reach our target audience in a way that is authentic, inspiring and refreshing, and pink ribbons often do not resonate with and are not relevant to, the experiences of people under 30. We also focus on prevention, and developed our merchandise to add an upbeat, positive “can do” attitude to prevention dialogue. We work with artists, athletes, celebrities and musicians that young people look up to, and “i love boobies!” matches their spirit and creativity.

WHAT IS NON TOXIC REVOLUTION?

Non Toxic Revolution is a Keep A Breast program dedicated to educating people on the environmental and lifestyle links to breast and other cancers. Check out the Non Toxic Revolution Give Shop, a one-stop-shop for non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free products. 100% of the sales go directly into NTR education campaigns and continue to empower young people to be their own health advocates.

CAN KEEP A BREAST SPONSOR ME OR SEND ME FREE PROMO STICKERS AND BRACELETS?

We do not have the budget for sponsorship. We cannot send stickers, bracelets, or other merchandise for free as it is our main way of raising funds for KAB. If you are interested in supporting Keep A Breast you can donate your time and influence the lives of your fans and so much more by throwing benefit events, and educating your fans and start making a difference.

HOW CAN I GET CASTED?

If you have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer or the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene, we invite you to be casted as part of our Treasured Chest Program. TCP offers newly-diagnosed women a unique opportunity to document their body and their feelings at a specific time in their treatment by turning their casted torso into a beautiful piece of art. The Keep A Breast Foundation Breast Casts™ harness the power of art and artistic expression to communicate complex feelings and thoughts about health, the female form and ultimately about breast cancer.

If you have not been diagnosed with breast cancer but would like to be casted to support Keep A Breast, you can do so with a $1,000 donation. The donation directly funds 5 casting kits for our Treasured Chest Program. Email info@keep-a-breast.org with “Cast Me” in the subject line.

CAN I HAVE MY OWN BREAST CAST EXHIBITION IN MY CITY?

Yes! You can organize a local Breast Cast Exhibition in partnership with Keep A Breast. This is a grassroots fundraising program that offers supporters a chance to organize and create their very own breast cast exhibition from start to finish with the help of a certified KAB casting expert. Proceeds are donated to Keep A Breast. If interested, email info@keep-a-breast.org with “Breast Cast Exhibition Inquiry” in the subject line.

CAN I PAINT A BREAST CAST?

Yes! Some of today’s most progressive artists have painted our breast casts, including Shepard Fairey, Mike Giant, Jeana Sohn, Mark Gonzales, Craig Stecyk, Jeff Ho, Angela Boatwright, and Ed Templeton. We are always looking for amazing artists to contribute their talents. Send your online portfolio along with a bio to info@keep-a-breast.org with “ARTIST and YOUR CITY” in the subject line. (i.e. ARTIST, AUSTIN TX)

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY KEEP A BREAST CRAFT BEER EVENTS?

Just like KAB, craft beer is full of creative, compassionate DIY’ers who are looking to make a positive difference in the world, and it is a community that we are super grateful to be a part of.

Over the past 10 years, brewers, beer lovers, and the craft beer community have come together and raised over $500,000. for The Keep A Breast Foundation through collaborations, pint nights, women’s forums, and beer festivals.  All beer events are 21 and over.

*Remember drinking more than one (1) drink each day (if you are 21, of course) increases your odds of developing breast cancer. Alcohol can increase the levels of some hormones, such as estrogen and unusually high levels of estrogen increase the risk of breast cancer. We know it's not fair but think of the consequences if you drink too much. Be responsible and drink in moderation if you do.

I WOULD LIKE TO INTERVIEW SOMEONE AT KEEP A BREAST. WHO DO I CONTACT?

For all press inquiries, please email us at info@keep-a-breast.org. Please allow a 24-48 hour response time for all inquiries. If an immediate response is needed, please include so in the subject line.

I AM PUTTING ON A FUNDRAISER FOR A DIFFERENT BREAST CANCER ORGANIZATION, WILL YOU SEND ME EDUCATION AND OTHER MATERIALS?

While we absolutely love that you want to raise money for the cause, as a nonprofit ourselves, we do not have the budget to provide materials for events that do not benefit us.

METASTATIC BREAST CANCER

We wish we were able to offer programs for everyone. But we are a very small organization, and our focus is on early detection. We understand that this can be off-putting for those whose cancer has metastasized. We recommend the following organizations that are specifically dedicated to this community: The Cancer Couch Foundation, METAvivor and MBCN.
