It Was Just Another Day At Work When Elaine Felt Something In Her Breast That Changed Her Life

Elaine was sitting at work one day,  until she felt something in her left breast. Her discovery saved her life from an aggressive cancer. She is here today to share her story and give valuable advice to everyone about the importance of early detection.

What is your spirit animal?

Wolf!

When was your diagnosis and how old were you?

28th of December 2012. I had just turned 34.

How did you find out you had breast cancer?

I found a lump on my left breast at work. I went to my doctor who then sent me to the hospital and the rest is history!

Who was the first person you confided in about your illness?

My best friend Katie.

Tell us something about yourself that people probably don’t know

I’m a BIG romantic.

After your treatment, what do you now make time for in your day?

I make time for myself. I try to take 5 or 10 minutes out of my day to just chill and switch off. Process my thoughts.

If you could be a superhero, what would your super powers be?

Definitely flying.

What advice would you give to someone recently diagnosed?

It's sh!t. It's really sh!t, but you can do it. Hang in there, look at me!

If someone wrote a biography about you what would the title be?

What advice would you give your 16 year old self?

Do it! Do it all! And be kind to yourself.

What was the toughest challenge you faced?

Having a double mastectomy.

When do you laugh the most?

When I’m with my friends.

If you could go back in time to any event, what would it be?

I’d love to go back to my backpacking days in New Zealand, 12 years younger, life was a ball. It still is, just a “different kinda” ball.

If you could travel anywhere where would it be and why?

Route 66 in a 1950 Cadillac, roof down, wind in my hair on the open road. It’s on the bucket list!
