Fit 4 Prevention Studio SignUp Starts Now

Fit 4 Prevention is a national movement to educate about breast cancer prevention through fitness and wellness. 

The goal is to inspire people to reduce their risk of cancers by adopting a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Since 2016, over 1,500 studios, gyms, and fitness locations have participated in Fit 4 Prevention each October for Breast Cancer Prevention Month.


Engaging in regular exercise is good for many reasons, and one of them is to lower your risk of developing breast cancer. Many studies conducted over the past 20 years have shown consistently that an increase in physical activity is linked to a lower breast cancer risk.

How exercising lowers breast cancer risk is not fully understood. According to the American Cancer Society, it’s thought that physical activity can regulate hormones like estrogen and insulin. These hormones can fuel breast cancer growth. Staying active also helps women stay at a healthy weight, which in turn regulates hormones and can keep the immune system healthier.

A recent study by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that women who engaged in regular physical activity before their cancer diagnoses and after treatment were less likely to have their cancer recur.

“Our data strongly suggest that the more consistently active patients were, the better they did,” said lead study author Rikki Cannioto, Ph.D., Ed.D., of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY.


The current health crisis has largely affected small businesses and especially those in the fitness industry. 

There are so many of you that have found ways to continue to prioritize health and wellness, and being active and we love to see it! Whether that be on zoom, socially distanced outdoor classes, or other creative ways of staying engaged and fit. Walking, water aerobics, yoga, skating, swimming, hiking, deadlifting, running, dance, volleyball, hip hop… you name it! It all accomplishes the aim: to educate and help lower your risk of developing breast cancer.  What an awesome way to build community while educating and preventing risk!
