20 Years of Loving Boobies: A Letter from the Founders

Careful

CARE FUL

FULL OF CARE

Yes! You are full of care.

Right now we are so full of care with ourselves in our homes, caring for our loved ones, our community, and total strangers.

We are all taking such careful intentions to wash our hands, cover our faces, take our vitamins, exercise, check-in, and stay home to protect our collective future, even if it means parts of it may be destroyed forever. Actually, some of our habits could use a good destruction.

I personally love destroying habits, mindsets, lies, and the status quo of what most of the world thinks of as healthy, doesn’t even think to do in the first place, or has been told something is safe for them and really isn’t.

Keep A Breast was founded to fill a gap. A BIG glaring gap.

20 years ago when our friend Margaret Kilgallen passed away due to breast cancer we were shocked! We had no idea young women could get breast cancer! No doctor, no organization, no parent or teacher was talking to us about our risk and what we can do to be aware. We were hurt, we were pissed and we started a small movement in our own community of artists, skateboarders, and musicians that has now turned into a massive global movement of self CARE, self LOVE, breast HEALTH, and community ADVOCACY.

With all this careful-ness we are taking, we urge you all to not be so careful with your heart. This is the time to ask your heart why you are here, what’s your heart's deepest desire, how can you live a life driven by love?

In the midst of all this, Keep A Breast is celebrating our 20th anniversary. It’s a massive milestone paved with thousands of passionate do-gooders around the world. We had big plans this year to celebrate with you, hug you, thank you, be with you, blow out candles with you, laugh and cry with you! Cheers with you to 20 years of prevention.

This is not the 20th-anniversary letter I had planned on writing. Just like all the graduations, birthdays, weddings that have been postponed, we will have to celebrate together a bit differently this year with the Nashville KAB Collection and exhibition this October. Plus, get your phones ready to celebrate virtually with something coming this September…

In honor of this milestone, paved with punk rock shows, one-of-a-kind Breast Casts, and passionate do-gooders, we’ve started something special, just for you. The survivor, the family member, the friend, the partner, the caregiver, the fierce rebel, and the seeker of cancer prevention. Because finding a cure isn’t enough when breast cancer diagnosis continues to rise.

The Prevention League, a breast health movement for all.

Right now, womxn’s health is under attack. More than ever, we have to be our own health advocates. And we’re stronger together.

We need your help to grow a prevention movement and build the people power to give womxn around the world the breast health education and access to support they deserve.

Thank you for being a part of the KAB family. I am so happy you’re here. If you can support us as a member of The Prevention League, join here.

Cheers to prevention and cheers to YOU!
